How to Use Attendance

Record when people start and end work, review daily and yearly attendance, and manage leave — alongside automatic time tracking from the desktop app.

What Attendance Does

  1. Overview

Attendance complements Timesheets and the desktop tracker. Clock In/Out captures shift-style punches (start and end of a work period). Leave Manage handles PTO, sick days, and other leave types with approver workflows. Summaries and color-coded statuses help managers spot absences, late arrivals, and approved time off at a glance.

    • Clock In/Out vs tracked time

Clock punches record attendance events. Project/task time still flows from the Staffic desktop app or manual timesheet entries — reconcile both before payroll.

    • Who uses it

Office and field teams with fixed shifts, hybrid policies, or leave approval requirements. Remote teams on pure project tracking may rely mainly on Timesheets.

    • Plan availability

Clock In/Out is included with time tracking on all plans. Full leave workflows (types, apply, approve, color-coded status) are on Elite — see Pricing under Attendance & Leaves.

Open Attendance

  1. Step 1: Open from the sidebar

Go to Attendance under Manage in the left sidebar. Expand it to open:

    • Clock In/Out

Punch in and out, view daily logs, and review member attendance for a selected period.

    • Leave Manage

Apply for leave, approve or decline requests, and manage leave types (Elite / enabled plans).

  2. Step 2: Attendance hub views

Depending on your plan, the Attendance area may also include:

    • Daily summary

Who was present, absent, on leave, or late for a single day.

    • Yearly view

Calendar or grid of attendance across the year for compliance and HR records.

    • Shift schedules

Expected start and end times when shift-based clock in/out is enabled.

    • Color-coded status

Present, absent, leave, holiday, and exception states highlighted for quick scanning (Elite).

Set organization timezone under Settings so clock punches and leave dates align with your payroll cutoffs.

Common Workflows

  1. Daily manager check

Each morning, open Clock In/Out for yesterday and today — confirm everyone punched in who should be working. Cross-check Live Feed for who is actively tracking right now.

  2. Payroll reconciliation

Before Payroll, compare clock totals to Timesheets and Reports → Time & Activity. Resolve gaps (forgot to clock out, tracked time but no punch) in policy with the member.

  3. Leave planning

Members submit leave in Leave Manage. Approvers act before the start date so schedules and client coverage stay clear. Approved leave appears on attendance summaries so it is not counted as an unexcused absence.

Tip: Use Attendance for presence and leave; use Timesheets for billable project hours. Many teams need both.

Tips

  • Define leave types (PTO, sick, unpaid) in Leave Manage before inviting the full team.
  • Publish clock and leave policies so members know when to punch vs rely on the desktop tracker.
  • Managers should approve or decline leave within one business day to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • Reconcile clock hours with timesheets weekly — do not wait until payroll day.
